Overview

The VCU Health Comprehensive Stroke Symposium is committed to advancing the knowledge of the healthcare team in most current concepts and advancements in the care of patients with cerebrovascular disease. As an academic tertiary referral center, VCU Health cares for complex stroke patients, pediatrics to adults, throughout the continuum of care from emergency care to in-patient rehabilitation and out-patient stroke clinics.

Objectives
  1. Draw the Circle of Willis to improve knowledge retention and quality of knowledge disseminated.
  2. Identify types of vision loss that indicate signs of an acute stroke.
  3. Identify the most effective medication strategies for secondary stroke prevention.
  4. Describe adverse drug effects of secondary stroke prevention medications that may impact rehabilitation therapies.
  5. Discuss pharmacologic options for the treatment of spasticity and apply knowledge to patient cases.
  6. Review social drivers of health (SDoH) impact on hospital screening for stroke risk and outcomes, and resources for hospital teams to identify and meet patients’ health-related social needs.
  7. Recognize how primary palliative care is valuable for all stroke patients regardless of prognosis.
  8. Recognize signs and symptoms of an acute stroke in the primary care setting.

Registration Deadline: May 14, 2024. No late registration will be accepted

Cancellation Policy: 
Registration fee, less a 15% non-refundable administrative fee, will be refunded only if written notice of cancellation is received via email to ceinfo@vcuhealth.org on or before April 14, 2024. There will be no refunds after that date.
