In 2003 I joined ENA after going to the National Conference. Being in the presence of 2500 other overachievers and changemaker was thrilling. In that environment, I networked with the most amazing people, including several from Louisiana. Until then, I did not understand that there were others that thought like me, sought extra education like me, looked to be better like me, and wanted to encourage others to do all the same, like me. When asked to apply to the Board as a Director, I hesitated, but pushed ahead despite the lack of confidence. I’m sure glad that I did. It is an honor to serve the state of Louisiana, members of Louisiana Emergency Nurses Association, and emergency nurses in our state. Thank you for allowing me the privilege.

I am an ENA member, state board member, state committee member, and national committee member because I want to support nurses in our state and other states who are caring for patients in the ED. As a part of ENA I can help voice concerns and represent ED nurses in and out the hospitals where they work. My service to ENA has been an incredible step in my personal and professional life and I hope to help support other ED nurses to the best of my ability.

ENA has provided many opportunities to engage in various projects/committees that have directly impacted emergency nursing within out State, which is truly rewarding. My involvement with ENA has positioned me to share this passion of emergency nursing with my fellow nursing team leading to their engagement and participation. I have been fortunate to pay it forward with sharing opportunities for learning and professional development igniting the next generation of emergency nurses.

I joined ENA because I found like- minded ED nurses who were passionate about caring for patients and for one another. One of my mentors early in ED nursing was a huge influence to get involved. I joined the BOD for the Louisiana State ENA because I wanted to serve as a voice for my co-workers, friends, and future colleagues cross the state. When it comes to professional organizations and developments, you can either watch on the sidelines or get in the game. I chose to jump in, and I have been challenged to grow in so any ways. One of my best professional decisions!

After 16 years of OR nursing I was given the opportunity to become a leader in the ED. After a brief time, emergency nursing became my passion, and I was given the opportunity to become the Director of Emergency Services. I joined ENA and became really involved in ED nursing at the facility, state, and then national level. I’ve served as a Director on the Louisiana State ENA council, chaired the membership committee for several year and was Louisiana State ENA Council President. I have attended many state and national ENA conferences, served as a delegate at National ENA General Assembly several times. My greatest passion has always been onboarding and mentoring staff. Being in emergency nursing and being a member of the ENA provides endless opportunities.

Being a part of this organization has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. Having the ability to network with other nurses that want to be the best and do the best for patients is inspiring and encourages me to keep pursuing excellence in this career. My longing to serve as a board member was birth from the encouragement of many of my mentor to push me to grow. Being on the board has allowed me to learn my voice in nursing and in leadership. This year I have served as the co-chair for the government affairs committee, this is an area I have become very passionate about. Making sure nursing is fairy represented and heard when legislation is involved is of great importance, at a national and state level. My goal in attaining a position as a Board of Director on the Louisiana State Council was to learn from other leaders on the board, while providing my experience to help promote growth in emergency nursing and improvement in patient outcomes. I attended ENA Day on the Hill and learned of the opportunities I could provide in representing our state to out congressmen. I became the Chair of the committee to continue to lead new members to provide valuable input in upcoming legislation to promote betterment of nursing practice and patient outcomes.
I began my career in 2010 as an ED nurse in a rural ED before moving to Alexandria in 2011 to work at Rapides Regional Medical Center. I spent the better part if the next 2 years at Rapides before competing travel assignments as an EN nurse in DENVR, co AND Nashville, TN. In 2015, I began my career as a flight nurse with Air Evac Lifeteam. Over the next 7 years, I achieved positions of Base Clinical Lead and eventually Program Director. As I continue to grow professionally, I began teaching courses such as ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC throughout the state. During this time, I developed a deeper passion for leadership and intent to become a leader in nursing. In 2022, I became the Chief Nursing Officer for Alexandra Emergency Hospital, where I continue to work today.

My initial engagement years ago was reading the monthly ENA magazine. As time went by, I came and met an amazing mentor that encouraged e and pushed me to grow, get involved, and develop myself into an active member of our association. This opened many doors for me to develop myself personally and professionally. The more I was involved, the more I became inspired by the people around me in our local ENA who were passionate about the profession and our chapter. My “why” is to continue to carry the torch that my mentor started, and that so many around me still carry and shine brightly in doing so. I am 25 years in, and I still love what I do. I am honored to serve on our State Board of Directors and as co-chair of our education committee as it provides a platform to grow our organization, provide information and learning opportunities throughout the state, and the opportunity to work with the incredible members of our team. Our profession of emergency nursing truly does e a difference in our communities and the lives of other, and as an educator my goal to inspire others to do the same.

I joined ENA because I enjoyed the group discussions, networking, and the ability to use my talents. I found that my natural giftings (talking with other, finding donors, spreading awareness, etc) were respected within the state council. I remember my first encounters with Deb Spann at my first ENA conference and initial TNCC class. She spoke with me about becoming part of this organization and how I could be an important voice for our state, for people, and ideals that I believe in. Serving on the Board of Directors and State Committees has given me the chance to become a better version of myself. I get the opportunity to travel around the state meeting new people, making new friends, and growing my circle. My goal is to shine a light for emergency nursing and to see that light is reflected in the smiles of the ER nurses across the state. Whether that be through gifts, donations, or simple conversations. I believe it is important for other nurses to now someone is in their corner and wants to praise them for their talents and strength. The friendships made in each region and the many lessons learned from the amazing nurses in our state empower me to continue to grow as a nurse, ENA member, State Fundraising Committee Chair, and Board Member for the Louisiana State Council of ENA.

I’ve been passionate about patient care and nursing education since I started my career in 2015 as an ED tech. It was during my nursing school journey that I had the privilege of learning from an inspiring emergency nurse and educator, Missy Wafer, who showed me that education could be both professional and fun. This early mentorship ignited my love for emergency nursing and teaching, and I quickly realized that precepting new nurses and fostering a supportive learning environment in the chaos of the ED was where I could make the most impact.
In my role as a Clinical Educator and bedside nurse, I am committed to creating high-quality, evidence-based educational experiences for my colleagues. I became involved with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) early in my career in 2017 to continue expanding my knowledge and ensure that my fellow nurses are equipped with the skills to provide exceptional care. I’m proud to be a TNCC Course Director, Stop the Bleed instructor, and hold certifications in CEN and TCRN, demonstrating my commitment to continuous learning and high standards of practice. I am currently working on the process of bridging to an ENPC instructor.
Outside of work, I actively contribute to the ENA’s state and national committees and serve as co-chair of the state trauma committee and education committee. I’ve also worked on the conference planning committee, always striving to bring innovative and engaging education to nurses statewide. I truly believe in the power of collaboration and hope to bring this mindset to the ENA Board of Directors, with a particular focus on expanding our hands-on educational opportunities at the annual state conference.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me on the tennis court—just another way I like to stay active, competitive, and have a little fun.
I’m eager to continue making a positive impact in emergency nursing, ensuring our profession stays strong, compassionate, and forward-thinking.
