  • 2026 National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) Assessment

Ohio has reached a significant milestone in the 2026 National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) assessment period with 52.7% of EDs completed, well ahead of the national average of 40.1%. For comparison, during the 2021 national assessment Ohio recorded 113 total responses over the full 90‑day period—this year, Ohio reached 117 completed assessments by the exact midpoint (April 17). Ohio is among the highest‑performing states nationally in response volume for 2026.

With 105 EDs remaining and 41 days until the May 31 deadline, Ohio needs 18 EDs per week (2.56 per day) to reach 100% participation—an achievable target based on current performance.

    Assessment Site: https://www.pedsready.org

The Federal EMSC Data Center has begun national phone outreach to remaining, select non‑respondent facilities and will continue until an 80% state response rate is achieved, after which remaining outreach transitions to the states. In parallel, as we enter the second half of the assessment period:

    • We ask for everyone’s continued messaging and encouragement
    • Our outreach is becoming highly localized and personalized for the remaining 105 EDs
Ohio EMSC is actively working with health systems, partners, and facilities to ensure every ED has a clear plan to complete the NPRP assessment by May 31—many already do, which is fantastic

We are truly almost at the finish line. Ohio EMSC and federal EMSC are excited to share post‑assessment resources and targeted improvement tools to help EDs strengthen pediatric readiness based directly on their NPRP results. For assistance or questions with completing the NPRP assessment, the Ohio EMSC team is available to connect with individual facilities or systems via phone, Microsoft Teams, or email for immediate, personalized support, or find our March 4 Webinar Recording on the NPRP Assessment Here.

Thank you for your leadership and dedication, and for helping maintain this extraordinary momentum statewide.

  • OENA Education Special Interest Group

Do you love to network? Do you possess coaching leadership qualities? Are you a lifelong learner yourself? The education special interest group (SIG) might be for you!

My name is Samantha Koeninger BSN, RN, CEN and I am the education SIG chairperson. In addition, I am the board secretary for the state of Ohio serving my second term. I have been an OENA member for about nine years! I am currently a clinical nurse educator in a metropolitan emergency department in Cincinnati, where I’ve been for ten years.

For the last two years I have been the chairperson, planning, developing and implementing educations for the board and member meetings every other month. From April through October we meet in person, in Columbus (centrally located), for business and networking. About 30 people from all across the state join us for not only the business portion but a free, CE awarded presentation that this SIG helps deliver.

With all of the great work this state is doing, it has not been a challenge for me to find something we can share with everyone! These are sometimes leaders presenting process changes, staff nurses presenting clinical ladder inquiry projects, or other ED nurses sharing their passionate and tangible work.

I write for CE, coordinate vendors (always fun to befriend them) and stay close to so many presenters from across the state. This is a powerful SIG that has plenty of room to grow!

I’d love to chat more – Email me @: samantha_koeninger@trihealth.com

    Talk soon,
    Sam
