Dear Fellow Peds Ready Supporters,
Our group of authors is still bursting with pride at the passage of resolution GA25-02, Designation of a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator in Every ED, on Wednesday in New Orleans. 95% of the delegates present voted yes to adopt the resolution. I want to thank our colleagues from Virginia ENA, specifically Sheena Brannum and Kristal Sullivan who advocated so strongly for rural ED's and the challenges of adding job duties to a nurse with a full plate. At the same time, they supported the ideals of pediatric readiness. Their suggestions for change were spot on and we were so happy to come to an understanding that made the resolution work for everyone. Thank you to my fellow co-authors, Robin Goodman, Megan Petrocelli, Barry Hudson, Chelsea Meixner and Cam Brandt for a beautifully written resolution. The approved resolved clauses read as follows:
Resolved, that ENA should strengthen its position statement to focus on the designation of a nurse PECC in every ED,
Resolved, that ENA should advocate for clear role delineation and protected time for the PECC based on pediatric volume, and designate or emphasize the position be based in the ED and can be shared for rural/low-volume/resource limited areas,
Resolved, that ENA should promote the publication of nurse-led research that demonstrates the efficacy of pediatric readiness in improving pediatric patient outcomes globally.
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the PECC SIG meeting on Thursday afternoon. We had over 80 people in a room set up for 40, but we made it work. We had meaningful discussion and shared information. We would very much like to see this community of Pediatric Emergency Nurses become a go-to place for pediatric readiness discussions and sharing.
I handed out business cards at the meeting and later found that my email address on the card isn't working. To contact me, please email sallyksnow@gmail.com
I think we have charted a course for improving pediatric readiness in every ED in the United States and around the world. Thank you for your part in that. Let's keep the momentum rolling.
