Caring for children in the ED can feel daunting, but having the right systems in place makes all the difference.

The 2026 National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) Nationwide Assessment is open and closes in less than four weeks. This free, once-every-five-years assessment takes just 30–45 minutes and provides your ED with customized feedback to identify gaps and strengthen pediatric care.

We’re currently at 48% participation nationally, and we need your help to increase that number before May 31.

    Why it matters:

    • High Pediatric Readiness is associated with up to a 76% reduction in mortality risk for children in the ED
    • The assessment helps generate a national “report card” to guide improvement efforts
    • It also drives research showing that over 2,100 children’s lives could be saved each year if all EDs achieved high readiness
    • As pediatric inpatient units continue to close across the country, EDs must be equipped to deliver prolonged, high-quality pediatric emergency care while awaiting safe transfer.

Please visit PedsReady.org to view your state’s progress on the interactive response map, and reach out to your ED leadership team to confirm that your ED has participated in the 2026 NPRP Nationwide Assessment.
