  • 1.  armbands on parent/guardian of peds patient

    Posted 09-26-2025 09:06 PM

We are currently working on our pediatric readiness at my current ED. I came from a facility that would also place an arm band on the parent of the pediatric patient for safety concerns- code pink. Does anyone have a similar practice of placing a patient arm band on the parent in addition to the child? If so, do you have an age cut off?

Thanks for any feedback or thoughts

We used to also band the caregivers but have stopped doing this - I'm honestly not sure why we moved away from this practice. Currently we're only banding the patients. Our exception is if the patient is severely autistic and the wristband is distressing the patient to a severe degree, then we will place it on the caregiver. We band both patient and caregiver with the child's band in MCI/disaster scenarios.

    Hi Deirdre,

I work at Advocate Children's Hospital in Illinois. This is our practice at each of our locations. we apply the band on the parent for all pediatric patients under 18 years of age.
