  • 1.  CDPH is looking at requiring 1:4 ratios in the lobby.

Has anyone heard that CDPH may require nurse to patient ratios in the lobby? Uncertain if it will be required if giving any minor triage interventions, or if giving treatment such as pain medication, antiemetics, antipyretics, etc. which would require follow-up assessments. Any information is appreciated.

I have not heard of it yet, but had a feeling it would be in the future.

I know a prior hospital I worked at, we got dinged because VS were not being performed in the lobby based off the acuity - which was the policy in place. CDPH didn't necessarily have a requirement for VS in lobby however that institutions policy did state level 2 acuity q1 hr, so CDPH said they had to do it in the lobby.

My understanding of title 22 and ratios, lobby patients are still waiting for treatment…BUT we all have changed to operate based off acuity and census that patients receive some care while they are waiting.

Anyone else have a recent CDPH visit and ratios in the lobby were addressed?
