As the chairperson of Vermont ENA's Quality, Safety, and Injury Prevention committee, I'm asking for assistance from our state's Emergency Departments to create multiple opportunities to host community Stop the Bleed courses on National Stop the Bleed Day, which is Thursday, May 22, 2025. Our goal is to recruit as many emergency departments as possible to participate in this effort with representation from the emergency nursing community as instructor and logical support.

What does it take to host a Stop the Bleed course?

    1. Space- a space accessible to the community with the ability to display a PowerPoint presentation and tables and chairs
    2. Equipment- a Stop the Bleed training kit, to include gloves, trauma shears, wound packing materials, training tourniquets, and wound packing manikins. Not sure where to find a Stop the Bleed training kit? Email me at tyler.molleur@med.uvm.edu for assistance
    3. Instructors- Stop the Bleed instructors are health care professionals who have taken a bleeding control course and are familiar with bleeding control techniques. Courses can be found at this link. Already taken a course? Register to be an instructor here. More information can also be found via the attached flyers.
    4. Advertisement- Have someone who can reach out via social media, local community forums, and news outlets to advertise your event! The community relations department at your hospital is an excellent place to start. The hope is to also have a centralized list of Stop the Bleed courses available via social media.

Understanding this is running on three to four weeks advance notice, if you do not have the resources at this time, use the next year to create a roster of instructors and have a plan to secure Stop the Bleed training materials!

Our goal is to get 25% of hospitals to participate this year, with more in 2026. Please reach out with any questions.
