Description:

The purpose of the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is to improve trauma patient outcomes by providing nurses with foundational trauma knowledge, skills, and a systematic Trauma Nursing Process to guide trauma patient care. After taking TNCC, nurses will be able to systematically assess a trauma patient, to intervene and/or assist with interventions, and to provide evidence-based trauma nursing care within the context of a trauma team. This work group will revise the classroom materials for the 9th edition. This work group will also collaborate with the provider manual and pre-course work groups to develop a cohesive 9th edition TNCC. The volunteer requirement includes a 2-year commitment with monthly conference calls and substantial independent work. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current ENA member
  • Current TNCC course director or instructor
  • Experience developing and evaluating nursing education
  • Access to scholarly resources such as electronic databases and medical libraries; Medscape, Dynamed, and UpToDate are peer-reviewed resources and considered reliable but are not a substitute for the primary sources they reference
  • Experience with scholarly writing and peer review
  • Familiarity with APA format and the use of references and citations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word including track changes and other editing features
  • Familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage ongoing work assignments and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work on project until June 2023, or until the work is complete
  • Ability to commit to monthly virtual conference calls with video capability
  • Current TCRN certification preferred
Writing Sample Details:
Create 4 PowerPoint slides, including citations and a reference list in APA format (must include one textbook, one journal article, and one electronic reference), about one of the following topics:
  • Interventions for a trauma patient in hypovolemic shock
  • Assessment of a trauma patient with an altered mental status
  • Reevaluation of an intubated patient with a pneumothorax
