Description:

The purpose of the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) is to prepare learners to recognize a pediatric patient who is experiencing a life- or limb-threatening illness or injury and provide appropriate interventions and care. It also prepares nurses to care for any pediatric patient that presents to an emergency department, urgent care, or clinic. This work group will author the 6th edition ENPC provider manual. The provider manual will be reorganized to reflect patient presentations. A complete draft of the chapters is due July 15, 2021. Authors will also identify testable content and develop exam items. This work team will also collaborate with the online module and classroom work teams to develop a cohesive 6th edition ENPC. The volunteer requirement includes a 2-year commitment with monthly conference calls and substantial independent work. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current ENA member
  • Current ENPC course director or instructor
  • Access to scholarly resources such as electronic databases and medical libraries; ¬†Medscape, Dynamed, and UpToDate are peer-reviewed resources and considered reliable but are not a substitute for the primary sources they reference
  • Experience with scholarly writing, conducting a literature review, and evaluating research
  • Familiarity with APA format and the use of references and citations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word including track changes and other editing features
  • Ability to manage ongoing work assignments and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work on project until January of 2023, or until the work is complete
  • Ability to commit to monthly virtual conference calls; no onsite meeting is required
  • Current CPEN certification preferred
Writing Sample Requirements & Directions:

Write a maximum of 250 words, including citations and a reference list in APA format (must include one textbook, one journal article, and one electronic reference), about one of the following topics:

  • Assessment of a pediatric patient with an altered mental status
  • Creating a safe environment for a suicidal pediatric patient
  • Interventions for a pediatric patient in respiratory distress
