Is On-Call something other hospitals require ED RNs to do? How is On-Call implemented? Our hospital requires our ED RNs to sign up for one On-Call 12 hours shift per pay period in addition to the regularly schedule 80 hours for the pay period. The On-Call is paid at 10% base pay and goes into overtime pay whenever you arrive and start to work during your On-Call shift. The On-Call is supposed to cover for surges in volume and acuity. It has mostly been used to cover staffing shortages and callouts. This mandatory On-Call has been very unpopular with the ED RN's. What are some other ways to handle surges in volume and acuity besides this very unpopular mandatory On-Call? Please give feedback.
Thanks
