+ About This Conference

The 19th Annual Nursing Summit, sponsored by Kansas Emergency Nurse Association is offered as continuing education for health care providers. By attending participants will have a better understanding of the factors that influence violence, how it impacts the community, and the care we provide to the patients and their families.  Registered attendees will have the opportunity for 6 nursing CE credits

+ Conference Objectives:

  • Identify the seven main classifications of drugs and discuss how they may impact the potential for violence
  • Discuss the impact of the opioid epidemic in the US
  • Discuss the change in perspective of an ED Nurse suddenly faced with a violent family tragedy
  • Discuss organ and tissue donation the decision to give and advocating for Midwest Transplant Network
  • Discuss the interaction with law enforcement and the judicial system   
  • Discuss mass casualty events of 1 October 2017.
  • Discuss the lessons learned: what went well and opportunities for improvement and how they could impact your practice            
  • Recognize the impact of mass casualty incident on the mental health of the prehospital, hospital and family social dynamic

Detective Mitchell Nedrow, graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Criminal Justice and minor in Sociology.  He has been employed with the Newton Police Department in 2006.  In 2013 he was transferred to narcotics and is currently the Senior Investigator for the Harvey County Drug Task Force.  In 2016 he received the Bronze Award for Service by the Kansas Association Chiefs of Police for his undercover and narcotics works.

Deanna Mowery, graduated from Bethany College with a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology.  She has been employed with the police department since 2008.  In 2012 she obtained the drug Recognition Expert certificate.

Gretchen Brown, RN, BSN, CENhas been an Emergency Department Nurse for 18 years. She is currently employed by The University of Kansas Health System as a Nursing Supervisor in the ED. She describes herself as a trauma addict and patient advocate.

Daniel Llamas Assistant Vice President, Physician& Public Relations, HCA Far West Division, Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center He established strategic partnerships to strengthen pre-hospital relationships within the Las Vegas market.
