A patient of sound mind after informed decision making opts to leave the ED AMA, but is unable to safely transfer or find an immediate transport means back home. What are we expected to do after they've signed the paperwork? The ED is technically no longer legally responsible for their care, as such, I do not think the ED should be expected to set up a transport means for them or utilize further resources on them. Has anyone experienced anything similar or does your hospital have a policy regarding instances like this?
