Exploring options others have used to promote, support and fund pediatric readiness training to community, rural and frontier areas where the individual clinics and hospitals can not budget the expenses. Our ENA State Council was able to supplement some costs for the educators to go to these areas but this is not a sustainable option indefinitely. What has been successful for you?

Following up on this query too. I hope others will share their knowledge and experiences for benchmarking. Thank you.

    Hi Sonya,

We have an initiative in Texas and Michigan, which have both received a grant from the Toyota Way Forward Foundation. This program is set to run until April 2025, and it has introduced several Regional Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (R-PECCs). These coordinators are actively visiting hospitals within our Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) to provide hands-on training, simulations for staff, and assistance in completing pediatric readiness assessments. They are also helping hospitals kickstart quality improvement (QI) projects tailored to pediatric care.

As we all know, making a significant impact requires collective effort. If you're looking to explore funding opportunities, I recommend reaching out to individuals with grant writing experience or those skilled in soliciting support from non-profits. The Children's Miracle Network could be a good starting point for securing initial grant funding. Additionally, organizations like the Children's Hospital Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) might offer valuable resources or connections.

It may also be worth looking into the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Kellogg Foundation, as they frequently support healthcare projects. Don't overlook the potential for government grants; local and state governments often allocate funds for healthcare improvement initiatives, including pediatric care and emergency preparedness. These funds could significantly aid in acquiring equipment for simulations and supporting personnel in their outreach efforts to enhance pediatric readiness in various locations.

Moreover, garnering endorsements and support from local pediatricians and community organizations can bolster your efforts and lend credibility to the initiatives.

Best of luck with your endeavors! If you have any further questions or need more guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out. While I may not have all the answers, I know several people who could help point you in the right direction.

We are in our beginning stages here in Florida. We have been researching potential for available grants for which we can wirte proposals. If we come across anything, I will share.

Florida EMSC as well as several other hospitals/EMSC colleagues across the US have had great experiences with the use of Peds Prep in Seconds or Scenarios in Seconds from Pedi-Ed-Trics (https://pedied.com) for outreach education/peds readiness.  The hands-on system includes real-life scenarios paired with cardboard cut-outs of real-life children, practice medications, and CEU's for RN/EMS/RT's. And... does not require educators to travel to rural areas.
We have used stuff from Pedi-Ed-Trics - I've worked at hospitals have utilized the system with very positive experiences. They staff is also very tentative to needs.
