    AZ ENA CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

AZ Emergency Nurse of the Year 2019

The Arizona Emergency Nurses Association (AZENA) Nurse of the Year award will be announced on the AZENA website on October 9th    and awarded at the November AZENA membership meeting. The deadline for nominations is September 14, 2019. In an effort to be “green”, all nominations are to be submitted via email to andersonrnrita@aol.com.

This award recognizes an outstanding emergency nurse in our state as identified by their peers, patients, or administration. There are many deserving candidates throughout the state, and certainly in your department. The criteria for the award are included below. A template for submitting the nomination is also included. I encourage you to take the lead in nominating an exceptional nurse and encouraging others to do the same.

    Criteria for the award include:

Service or commitments beyond job expectations which have significantly advanced the practice of emergency nursing.

An outstanding knowledge and expertise in emergency nursing practice and education; for example, CEN.

Contributions that have affected the profession within the community or region; for example: injury prevention instructor/provider, advocate for legislation that enables nurses to provide advanced care to their patients, or providing preventive education to targeted populations in the community.

Serves as a role model providing a positive professional influence, guidance and support to coworkers; for example: professionalism, participation in quality projects, participation in professional organizations, and patient advocacy.

Educational expertise in emergency nursing or EMS who have made significant contributions in clinical education, professional development, and/or development of nursing/EMS professionals in clinical practice.

An advocate who goes beyond the call of duty and demonstrates care and compassion towards patients and their significant others (if able, share an example without violating patient/family confidentiality or share letters of support/thanks from patients or their family).

Members of the AZENA award selection committee will select the winner based on these criteria. Please refrain from using the nominee’s name, gender, or organization in the narrative of why this individual deserves this award; instead, use “the nominee” or “this person”.
