The Emergency Nurses Association is dedicated to defining the future of emergency nursing and emergency care through advocacy, expertise, innovation and leadership. ENA serves over 35,000 members and meets the needs of our community members through research, publication, professional development, injury prevention and patient education. Pennsylvania ENA represents nurses across the state as part of the National ENA.

PAENA's Vision Statement

PAENA leads the way in knowledge, resources, and responsiveness for emergency nurses, their patients and families. PAENA is a professional member organization recognized for promoting excellence in emergency nursing through leadership, research, education, and advocacy.

Code of Ethics

The emergency nurse acts with compassion and respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of the individual. The emergency nurse maintains competence within, and accountability for, emergency nursing practice. The emergency nurse acts to protect the individual when health care and safety are threatened by incompetent, unethical or illegal practice. The emergency nurse exercises sound judgement in responsibility, delegating, and seeking consultation.

PA ENA's Mission Objective

PAENA exists to:

  • To promote the specialty of emergency nursing.
  • To promote the interests of PAENA's members and to improve the professional environment of the emergency nurse through education and public awareness.
  • To promote ethical principles as defined in the PAENA Code of Ethics for Emergency Nurses and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
  • To actively collaborate with other health related organizations to improve emergency care.
  • To be the primary resource for emergency nursing leadership, education, and research.
  • To define standards that serve as a basis for emergency nursing practice.
  • To develop, disseminate and evaluate emergency nursing education and research.
  • To encourage interaction and mentorship among emergency nurses.
  • To identify and disseminate information on key trends affecting and pertinent to emergency nursing.
  • To serve as an advocate for the public regarding emergency care.
